Healthcare+ Pathways™ Projects

Healthcare+ Pathways™ is an internship program for rising high school freshmen. Designed to increase the participation of under-represented groups within the biomedical and health sciences, this two-week program provides unique career exploration opportunities for students who are American Indian or Alaskan Native, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, underprivileged, or the first in their family to go to college.

Students will learn from world-renowned healthcare and community professionals to develop the skill sets needed to think critically, problem-solve, communicate, conduct investigative research, and challenge their own learning to compete in a global world.

Each summer, the Healthcare+ Pathways™ interns are presented information on the anatomy of the head and neck. Students research potential topics of interest to them focused on the head and neck area. Students are paired with one or more partner/partners to work on selected research topics based on their grouped individual areas of interest.

Students are engaged in using the scientific method to work on their selected small group research project. Students are able to practice their research skills, while also strengthening their science and math skills.

Each group of students is responsible for constructing a poster representing their selected topic and research conducted.
